Ideal Working Week

There are infinite ways to plan your working week. What works for you won’t work for someone else and vice-versa. Don’t be afraid to test different ways of working to achieve your optimal working practices.

I am often working with the ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’ attitude, that said we can often stumble along with things a bit ‘broke’ for way longer than we need to.

Regular reviewing and being honest with ourselves about our results and how we feel about all aspects of our work and life enable us to create and continually evolve a genuinely satisfying life.

We might find certain aspects of our work are or become difficult, boring, inefficient, or annoying. If that’s the case, do something about it.

6 Fun Ideas to Change Up Your Working Practices for a More Satisfying Working Life.

1. Consider having client-free weeks.

I found switching between client work, creative tasks and regular business tasks took a lot of energy. I work better when I’m focused on a particular kind of task for a longer period of time. My coaching packages have coaching calls every other week. I, therefore have a client week, followed by a creativity week. I Love working this way. Every week feels like a holiday. I LOVE my client work, so client week with no other work (unless I feel like it!) feels like such a treat, and of course on my creativity week, I have no clients so it feels like the holiday vibe.

I know several coaches who have one week each month as an implementation week or ‘yin’ week where they don’t see clients.

2. Join co-working sessions.

Co-working sessions are great at fostering focus for a set period of time.

You can set them up yourself with your business buddies or join a program that includes them. I include 2x co-working sessions per week for my clients.

We chat for 5 minutes at the beginning of the hour, work for 20 minutes, come back together at half past the hour and I pick an oracle card for them to muse upon. Then we work for another 25 minutes before saying our quick goodbyes.

It’s always great to see your fellow co-working buddies and to feel a sense of accomplishment at the end of the hour.

3. Outsource.

There are likely loads of things you’re doing in your business that you don’t need to whether you already have a team or not.

Finding new team members is a challenge for most people, but so worth it when you find the right match.

It does take time to both find and train or learn the working methods of the new right team member, but when you get it right, it’s like a breath of fresh air and they can take all those things you don’t like doing off your plate and you get to feel supported.

4. Decide on set times when to do repeatable tasks.

This works especially well if it’s a task you’re not yet ready to outsource, but it’s one that doesn’t have you jumping for joy and one that you could easily get ‘behind’ with if you don’t tackle it regularly.

It also helps to cut out decision fatigue.

I do my weekly tasks and planning in my Monday morning co-working session and my book-keeping and finances in my Thursday afternoon co-working session. It means I stay on top of all my business tasks, all the time. Little and often wins the race!

5. Schedule regular reviews.

Whether it’s daily, weekly, monthly, or quarterly, make sure you take time to think about what’s working for you and what isn’t.

We can get so busy working on the tasks in our business that we don’t take the time out to consider how we can best get those tasks done, with the most ease and pleasure.

Be the CEO of your business and life and ask yourself these questions regularly. You’ll thank your past-self for it in the future.

We all know that life is a journey with an infinite number of destinations along the way. Regularly reviewing your working practices ensures that you enjoy the journey as much as the destinations.

6. Change up where you work.

Whether it’s a different room in your home or garden, a cafe, a hotel, or a Co-working space, those of us who work on laptops can make use of a change of environment. It can give you new perspectives and fresh inspiration in all aspects of your work.
